THE TAD LASONCZYK MEMORIAL MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP
We are proud to offer this scholarship in Tad Lasonczyk’s name.
Mr. Lasonczyk was the music teacher at Finneytown High School for 30 years and the Choir Director at Fleming Road United Church of Christ for 50 years. The Church Council established as scholarship fund in Tad's memory. This scholarship is available to high school seniors planning futures in the field of music. Funding for this award is obtained through donations contributed through Fleming Road United Church of Christ. The Scholarship, in the amount of $1,000, may be awarded to one or more students based on the criteria for eligibility. Please note that we have completed the application process for 2023, however, we encourage you to bookmark this page and visit us again for 2024! In 2024, applications are due by April 1st and will be reviewed by the scholarship committee. The recipient(s) will be determined by the Scholarship Committee before May 1, 2025. More About Tad...
Tad Lasonczyk was an educator and a professional tenor who was well-known for his renditions of the National Anthem at Cincinnati's Crosley Field preceding Reds baseball games. Tad graduated from Norwood High school in 1955 and entered the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music as a voice major, graduating in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education and continuing on to earn his Master's degree in Education. His teaching career began in 1959 in Spring Valley and Bellbrook, Ohio, teaching music L-6, the junior high band and chorus and general music and high school music. Tad came to the new Finneytown High School in 1960 as an original member of the faculty, where he taught until he retired in 1989.
He sang professionally with the Cincinnati Summer Opera between 1961 and 1972, and he was the president of the senior class at Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and the assistant director of the UC Glee Club. He taught all junior high choruses, elementary instrumental band and high school general music, and he was an assistant band director. In the 1960s he became director of all vocal classes at the high school, including the Concert Choir, Madrigal Singers, Ensemble Singers, Men's and Woman's Glee Clubs, the seventh and eighth grade choruses and the X-period, a before-school class for band and orchestra students. His students received numerous awards, including nine Superior ratings in the Ohio State Music Contests. His Ensemble Singers took third place in the Jubilee Choral Festival in Washington DC in 1978, and at the Opryland American Festival his Concert Choir took second Place nationally in 1980 and 1983. He worked on the committee to build the Performing Arts Center, and served as past president of the District 14 OMEA Board as well as the state board. He also was the first Finneytown Education Association president, and coached junior high football and girl's reserve football. Tad was also a member of the Pike Fraternity at the University of Cincinnati, a member of the Greenhills-Forest Park Kiwanis Club and the Finneytown Hall of Fame, and he was the choir director at the Fleming Road United Church of Christ for fifty years.
Tad was the beloved husband of Mary Lasonczyk (nee Gaefe); the loving father of Tad Lasonczyk III and John (Cindy) Lasonczyk; the grandfather of Laura, Michael, Julie, Kyle and Robbie; and the uncle of (Bill (Carol) Meyer and Joy Cruetzinger and her children Kate and Jenny.
